Whether you are a mother or not, we can all celebrate the difference that mothers can make in our lives. We can, as the mother mandate expresses, be there for others in caring, in concern, in friendship, in love. We can take a simple tomato and mozzarella or goat cheese and slice it with care, arrange it with a leaf of basil and a drizzle of olive oil and present it at dinner to someone who hasn’t had the vision yet. We can impart beauty, art and joy with the simple. We can be present for those who are still groping through the darkness. This, is the essence of ‘mater’.
